Gillis William Long (1923-1985), a cousin of Huey Pierce Long, was born in Winnfield, Louisiana. He served in the army during World War II and received B.A. and J.D. degrees from Louisiana State University in 1949 and 1951, respectively. Gillis W. Long of Rapides Parish, La., served seven terms in the U.S. House of Representative from the Louisiana 8th Congressional District (1963-65, 1973-1985). He was a member of the Long family, a prominent political family of Louisiana. Huey Pierce Long, Russell B. Long, George Shannon Long, Speedy O. Long, and Earl K. Long were among his cousins.
